About Me

Hello! Thanks for stopping by. :)

I’m a writer and actor based in Tiohtià:ke/Mooniyang (Montréal). I earned my B.A. from McGill University, where I majored in English Literature and minored in French and Spanish. I'm also a fluent Mandarin speaker.

I was born in Ontario but spent my teenage years in Oklahoma and Kansas, before making Quebec my home.

My work in writing and acting spring out of the same drive to tell stories and connect with other people. I'm a staunch believer that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and that in an age of Internet silos, art is a vital tool for helping us listen to each other again.

I love to collaborate with other creative minds. If you have a project you think I'd be interested in, please don't hesitate to get in touch here.

I’m drawn toward speculative fiction and shining light on marginalized characters. My short stories include a cyborg trying to fight her parental programming and sisters navigating the shared deformity of giant wings.

I recently completed the Short Form Mentorship at Diaspora Dialogues under Amanda Leduc, working on a short story in the style of a Tang dynasty folk tale.

COUNTERCURRENTS

I’m currently working on Countercurrents, a full-length play about a mother-daughter pair torn apart by clashing political views. I previously workshopped the play with Teesri Duniya Theatre in Montreal and Tarragon Theatre in Toronto, and an early draft won McGill's Lionel Shapiro Award for Creative Writing. I’m truly grateful to the Canada Council for the Arts for supporting the creation of this piece with a Professional Development for Artists grant.

Countercurrents will premiere at the Montreal Fringe Festival in June 2025, presented by MBC Productions. My longtime collaborator Dana Prather will direct.

I speak native-sounding English and Mandarin and fluent French and Spanish.

I’m a passionate musical theatre artist actively studying contemporary and classical voice, as well as ballet.

I’m equally passionate about shining light on the Chinese-Canadian experience. I’ve appeared in such projects like the animated short Still Moving by Rui Ting Ji (which is headed to Animafest Zagreb in June 2025!) and the play Leila Roils the Seas by Lily Chang.

Next up, you can catch me as Veronica Guo in the premiere of Countercurrents, my original play directed by Dana Prather for the Montreal Fringe Festival in June 2025.

MBC Productions

MBC Productions is a collective of three Montreal-based emerging theatre artists: Alice Shuang Wu, Fred Azeredo, and Dana Prather. Our mandate is to develop and present new theatre pieces that are both intercultural and experimental, embracing the full humanity of marginalized characters.

Our next project is Countercurrents, a provocative political drama written by Alice Shuang Wu and directed by Dana Prather. The play is premiering at the Montreal Fringe Festival in June 2025 after developmental work at Teesri Duniya Theatre and Tarragon Theatre.

Countercurrents follows journalist Veronica and her new roommate–her mother Rong, who has turned to 5G conspiracy theories to treat her debilitating chronic pain. As their worldviews drift apart, both women wrestle with how to live with someone they no longer like, but still can't help but love.

This production is supported by the Studio Residency Program at Montréal, arts interculturels and an Alumni Microgrant from the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers.

More about MBC

MBC stands for “Magic Broadcasting Corporation”—a nod to our start in audio dramas. We met as students at McGill University, where our first collaboration was Sojourns, an audio drama series written, directed, and edited by Fred and broadcasted by community radio station CKUT. The project began during the COVID-19 pandemic, when radio offered a safe avenue for actors and playwrights to practice their craft.

As theatres reopened, our trio transitioned to collaborating on stage productions, notably Pindorama, an original Brazilian-style play by Fred. This whimsical farce adapts folkloric tropes from the arid Nordeste region for the Canadian stage, without sacrificing regional character and avoiding exotic stereotypes. Pindorama was a crowd favourite and top seller at the Montreal Fringe. It received acclaim from local reviewers like Forget the Box’s Jason C. McLean, who called it “the quintessential Fringe show” and “just plain creative fun.”

Our next project was a collaboration with Teesri Duniya Theatre: Boal in Montreal, a workshop exploring Brazilian playwright Augusto Boal’s interactive theatre methodology, Theatre of the Oppressed (TO). Fred and Dana led three months of TO workshops, culminating in four final performances that, true to Boal, used audience interaction to engage audiences in issues like patriarchy and language rights.

As MBC continues to grow, we strive to not only expand the subjects that Canadian theatre can cover, but the forms that theatre can take.
